The Sewing Sessions
The Sewing sessions is a monthly group for young people aged 11 - 16 who have an interest in fashion and working with textiles. The young people learn skills they can use on a daily basis, they look at fashion and clothes with the idea of how to restyle, reuse and reimagine, rather than not knowing what to do when something breaks or a button comes off. The group generally follow their own projects with support from the facilitator but there is always a project idea to follow if they need some inspiration.
Sewing machines and some materials are provided for in the sessions. As the fashion industry is the second largest contributor to the climate crisis, we think it is important to empower young people with knowledge that allows them to make informed choices about the clothes they wear and the skills to maintain those choices.
This is currently supported by Tesco Stronger Strats fund and we will be seeking additional funding to continue through 2025.
